From Armidale to Sydney, and then finally settling in Brisbane, Summa Shing is a multidisciplinary artist who lives and works within the beautiful river city.

With this portrait I wanted to portray Summa’s vibrant and kooky personality. I took influence from her visual aesthetics, as well as her personal and cultural background to form my concept and process.

The soft shading of my piece is reminiscent of portraits from the Edo period, and the shirt is collaged using a mixture of purchased and self-printed papers. These elements pay homage to Summas' Japanese heritage along with the print and paper making disciplines she works within.
